Fun fact: That is a German first aid kit. Being German it is of course standardised and there is of course a law specifying what needs to be in there. So every German car has this insane amount of bandages in it.

LOL...... Look at some of the old group B footage for the uninitiated.
They were really asking for the Carnage that eventually cought up with them.
I still wish the 959 and RS 2 had duked it out in group B though.

This car is the best of the best!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!This car has overtaken its time by at least 10 years! If compared to the other supercar of the 90's Ferrari F40, this is super-luxury.

When I was in the Army in Germany back in '87 one of these passed us up on the autobahn. We were going 80 mph (approx 130kph) in a Volksvagen beetle on our way to the skateboard park in a town south of Frankfurt called Hemsbach and one of these 959's, a silver one, blew by us going about twice our speed, approx. 150 to 160 mph! True story my friend!

The review is excellent and it is spot on. And it goes to show that average folks should not have cars like this. They can't even use the gear shift properly and start with the g for off-road use instead of the first gear. I mean manufacturers are probably right that they don't produce manual sequentials for average folks -- only automatics, steptronics and obsolete manuals are available. That's probably right. I've always hated on such a practice but amateurs are probably gonna freak out + be unsafe with proper systems. So, my complaints that manufacturers only produce stupid gearboxes for street cars are untenable. This MT layout had been a common practice for faster shifting before the advent of manual sequential gearboxes which made the H-manual obsolete (in racing cars) as it is too slow. This MT layout is not available on average street cars (the 959 is an exception); the mechanical sequential gearbox ain't available either. No matter how much I hate it when only dumbed down gearboxes are available, this is the only way to go. You cannot tell amateurs to brake with a left foot either. You can't offer the 959 layout of the MT either, although I would prefer it that way as the manual sequential is not available in street cars. My complaints about stupid manual gearboxes are untenable for sure. Proper systems should be unavailable for amateurs who may have difficulties using such systems. That's also the case with the hard clutch here. It is not appreciated by the crowd but it's not the fault of the car -- the 959 is just very close to a track car in which the clutch is supposed to be like that. I myself love the MT layout and the use of the hard clutch on this 959, but I'm not passing any judgement, although the wheel systems don't appeal to me. I myself use runflat tires but not like this. This is overkill. Ignition into a wheel? LOL You might run into compatibility problems with the 959 :) A price tag of more than a million bucks? -- Thanks but not thanks. I can buy a whole fleet of all types and varieties of vehicles in mint condition for that much money, including track models (not usable on streets) with proper sequential manuals. Funny thing is that people who CAN drive this 959 and who WILL appreciate the MT layout and the clutch don't own these 959's. This 959 ended up just like a collectible item and initially it was anything but that. Such an irony. And even more irony with its price tag, as this is not a car for collecting. It's the car close to a track car. Such an irony. LOL :)
One of the ugliest cars ever.

Never heard anyone refer to a 959 as a nine-five-nine. It’s a nine-fifty-nine. It’s not a nine-one-one, a nine-four-four, a nine-three-zero, a nine-one-four, or a nine-two-four/eight, etc. So, why? My best childhood buddy is a Porsche mechanic and racer so I’m not a noob around Stuttgart’s finest. Why differentiate here? Even though the nine-fifty-nine certainly deserves some reverence.

Considering Porsche lost $ on every example sold and the tech rivaled F1 and NASA, I’d say 1.5 is a bargain. Since I drive a 94 Miata, I’d say I know a “true-er” bargain.

The G-gear in the 959 was also a measure to avoid noise regulations. As regulations only tested on lower speeds and in lower gears, the porsche 959 would initially fail these tests. So they put in the G-gear, as testing had to be performed starting from 1st gear, with the G-gear installed, they could make first gear longer, which meant lower noise emissions which will pass the regulations.
Scorpionc - Month ago
The F40 might be the Posterboy in the 80s, this one is the Drivers car. Anyway, every Car that is registered in Germany needs to have a First Aid Kit. And you get trouble with the Police and the Periodic safety inspection if you dont have one within its expiritation date. The Chalk btw. was for when you had a Crash to mark the Position of the Cars and then to push the Cars aside to make room for the traffic to keep flowing, if possible, I guess thats also an 80s thing.
