Audi's S-Line is just a trim level like you suggested but the S and RS badges do actually equate to added performance. The S and RS models all make higher performance than the non S and RS models. An A4 makes about 245 HRSPRS with a single turbo and the S4 (same body type) comes with a supercharged 333 HRSPRS engine (i'm using the B8.5 specs) and the RS4 makes 450 while being naturally aspirated. The same trend applies across all models. a3's have a 2.0L turbo which is the same in the a4. S3's make almost 300hp, and RS3's clock in at just under 400. So on and so forth with a5, s5, rs5, a6, s6, rs6, a7, s7, rs7, etc. And of course the R8 is in a class of its own. So in the case of Audi, the S and RS badges do actually mean something.

Volkswagen GTI. It has been left fairly well alone as there’s never been a ‘GTI-Line’. There have been some pretty poor GTI’s in the past but at least they’re always better performers than the standard vehicles.

Ford doesn't sell the focus and Fiesta st anymore in their home country so... Its just a glorified "sport" badge now.
He'll, even in the end the Fiesta had the "ST Line" that was just a fluff badge.

Idk I've seen an m240i and a regular 240i go at it and that m240i put a pretty good beating on it. I get it though; I'm a big BMW fan and I don't fully get the "half M" thing going on. (Also the X3 M40i does a 13.8 standing quarter mile and the regular x3 doesnt even come close to that. X3 M40i is no joke)

Toyota in Indonesia has been the biggest scammer in this term. They butchered the TRD badges by putting it on city cars that doesn't even relate to any motorsport-related activities and worst part is that they only put bumpers and put TRD stickers then charge a lot more. Even the global model such as Yaris got this treatment, TRD Yaris is just normal Yaris with better looking bumpers and no engine tuning at all. It's disgusting and you're right, the TRD badge is meaningless for me now. I dread the time when they start butchering the GR badge here. I know it's coming.

Honestly, not the video I was expecting. Ain't nobody confusing an A6 S-line for an RS6. Yes, it's marketed a little fuzzy but every car enthousiast knows the different subtleties like the 63s before AMG or the absence of 40i behind M2. Imo, if anything is diluting the performance badges, it's the SUV's that get the genuine AMG, M and RS badges. They reduce the genuine performance badge to a horsepower indicator, instead of the driver engagement they used to represent.

Honestly all of these are our faults , people were putting cheap ‘amg’ and ‘m’ badges on their cars along side with a lot of stupid cosmetics inside and out and these companies noticed , so they turned into money and suckers buy them , actually I believe a lot of ‘ car guys’ are into them , they love the badging , the bling , the extra pieces of plastic , and they pride with ‘ extra 20hp bro , thats M powa for you bruh’

Branding is why Subaru's WRX and the now defunct Mitsubishi's Evolution lines are still such legends. Mitsubishi never failed to deliver a great car, and Subaru still makes true rally machines to beat Audi's Quattro any time.
Sure these lines got old, but they are still respectful "sport trims".

I have a C250 twin turbo diesel AMG Sport Plus, doesn’t have an AMG badge on the boot. In UK most car engines are either 2.0 diesel or low capacity petrols, so most sports badges are on the biggest engines before going to the performance engines. Ie Audi A3 is commonly a 1.4 turbo, S3 2.0 turbo with double the power, or an RS3 with a 2.5 and even more power.

hmmmm... you make some good points, but your opinion on BMW M Performance cars is way off, before I bought my M340i I road tested it and the M4 CP. The M4 has 60+ HP more, but the new 4wd M340i did better on 0-60 every time. To suggest the M340i (0-60 ~ 4 sec flat) waters down the M brand is silly. The M4 has tighter handling, but the M340i is FAST. I went for the M340i as it is rapid but much easier to live with than an M4.
