I really enjoy your videos for the clarity of content except for the cheesy humor at the beginning that takes my concentration away. It is becoming more and more irritating as I watch your videos. Remind me of some of my teachers in my youth that felt obligated to use some form of opinion talk just because they know they have your attention. I just bought my first lathe and am trying to learn as much as I can. Please remember that humor is like religion or politics. It is not funny for everyone. You must refrain from imposing it even if you think you are funny. Making a joke or two at the beginning to show your audience you are not a boring or pretentious is ok. But too much of it will eventually turn people away. You may have a career as I comedian you want to explore and leave the technical stuff behind. Check with Joe Rogan

So in your professional opinion are these cheap welders suitable for beginners to practice on? Can you give the right size rods to buy for a similar machine like yours. I got mine on special for $40 Australian dollars. I have absolutely no experience in welding so I didn't want to spend big on a professional welder just yet. I'd figured that I can just afford to blow up to $100 inc all the accessories while I'm learning. Can I use low burning point stainless steel rods which they suckered me into buying for about AUD $8 for 100pc lol. Thanks for sharing your know how sir

On the Z do you have a counterweight system ? That would ease the tension on the lead-screw. Backlash would still be a problem. Maybe use PTFE or Delrin as a lead-screw nut (it's self lubricating and will have atomic level backlash) ? Dunno about load but if you have a counterweight ? You might have to cut a tap end into the leadscrew to cut the thread into the Delrin. Anyway just a thought. Will let you do load/compression calcs as this is not my area of expertise.

In another lifetime I did some work for some place that was attempting to do renewable power with solar concentrator’s. They had a dish that was something on the order of 15 m² or more. I saw that thing send molten steel falling from the structure, melting through it like tissue paper. I saw a video of a test where the light beam hit a tungsten plate and brown gas started coming off the plate. You can do a lot with concentrated sunlight. If you really want to heat up that pot though you need to put up some wind baffles to stop the convective cooling think something like an optically deep cavity with insulation that you just put the things inside that you want to be hot.

Some time ago you were making custom gears for mini lathe to slow down feed rates and made a comment about Mod 1 gear cutter 'set' from China . Anyway, yesterday I found a reference book from 1994 and found DP gear cutters run 1 to 8, BUT, modular cutters run the opposite direction in regards to the number of teeth they cut. That means the Chinese cutters were numbered correctly?
