Bond. Scaramanga. A fun house. The climax of THE MAN WITH THE GOLDEN GUN is a fight to the death between the best in the business - Bond’s Walther has a six shot magazine while Scaramanga’s 4.2mm pistol is a single shot. Interesting fact: Christopher Lee (Scaramanga) was a distant cousin of 007 creator Ian Fleming.

SPECTRE | Rome car chase

“I loved the car chase being a one-on-one speed battle, a game of cat and mouse between two of the fastest cars in the world, neither of which had been seen before,” director Sam Mendes on SPECTRE’s Rome car chase between Bond’s Aston Martin DB10 and Hinx’s Jaguar C-X75.

Bond gets out of a scrape in OCTOPUSSY using the nifty Acrostar ”Bede” Jet. For close-ups of Bond manoeuvring the jet through a hangar, special effects supervisor John Richardson mounted a plane on a pole attached to a stripped-down Jaguar. The car was driven through the hangar at breakneck speed, soldiers running in front of the car to hide the chassis.

THE LIVING DAYLIGHTS | Cargo net fight
Not a stunt for anyone with a fear of heights, this showdown in THE LIVING DAYLIGHTS (1987) was a fist fight on a cargo net hanging from the back of a Hercules. High above the Mojave Desert, stunt performers BJ Worth (Bond) and Jake Lombard (Necros) duked it out hanging from a 1500-pound net flying at 100 knots and 6,500 feet. A safety man was on standby ready to leap out and deploy specially disguised parachutes.

Shot at Eelmoor Tank Driving Range in Aldershot, England, the DIE ANOTHER DAY hovercraft chase through the North Korean Demilitarised Zone was directed by 007 action unit legend Vic Armstrong. “Take the bloody shot!” For the SKYFALL (2012) train chase Daniel Craig (James Bond) and Ola Rapace (Patrice) performed their own stunts attached to safety wires while the train was travelling at 40mph. Strap yourself in. FOR YOUR EYES ONLY (1981)’s “drive in the country” uses the least 007-car imaginable - a Citroën 2CV. The 2CV was chosen to make a clean break from the high tech gadgetry of MOONRAKER (1979) and force Bond to rely on his wits.

TOMORROW NEVER DIES | Car Chase

Who doesn’t want a full size remote controlled car? This chase through a Hamburg garage in TOMORROW NEVER DIES (1997) is one of the most inventive in the 007 series. To create the effect of Bond driving his car via a touchpad on his cell phone, special effects supervisor Chris Corbould’s crew rebuilt four BMW 750iLs to be driven by hidden stunt driver Steve Griffin crouched on the back floorboard using video monitors.

It’s Bond v Hinx/plane v car in this sequence from SPECTRE (2015) filmed in Austria. Special effects supervisor Chris Corbould came up with an ingenious solution for when the plane has to skid along on its fuselage. “We had skidoos mounted inside the aircrafts’ bodies,” he explains, “it could drive along the ground at high speed. It looks as though it is sliding on the snow but is actually being driven and steered from the inside.”

Bond and Tiger Tanaka’s crack team of ninjas infiltrate Blofeld’s base hidden inside a dormant volcano in YOU ONLY LIVE TWICE (1967). The set was created by legendary Production Designer Ken Adam. “The challenge appealed to me,” he said. “When I had done two or three sketches, Cubby Broccoli said, ‘Looks interesting. How much is it going to cost?’ I knew it was going to be a gigantic set but I had no idea. I quoted about a million dollars. That was an enormous amount of money. S&W Model 52 was a target automatic that fired 38 Special flush seated wadcutter ammo, had a 5 shot magazine with 6th in the chamber, it would be a very weird weapon for an assassin to use. It looked like a Model 39 with a longer barrel and target sights....in any event the gun used here is a Colt 1911.

In my opinion a poor james bond. Too lightweight, looked more like an insurance salesman. Not a patch on D. Craig. I'm afraid this was a continuation from Roger Moore's tenure towards his final few Bond films. Bond films should be darker, more grittier. Although Timothy Dalton tried and did an excellent job. But it was too brief. Will miss Daniel Craig when he eventually retires as Bond. Only now do i appreciate OHMSS. Lazenby in the fight action sequences was fast and brutal. Anyone not seen his only Bond outing should watch this film

Don't recall any S&W autos on a 1911 frame prior to the 1980s. The professor's weapon is definitely a 1911 single stack 45 ACP and normally would have at least 7 in the magazine if fully loaded, not counting the 8th round that could have been added in the spout, which this gun apparently was for had the professor truly fired his last round the slide would have locked in the rearward open position which it was not. The problem with the early Bond movies is after From Russia With Love they were little more than live action cartoons. Poorly written, ridiculous premises and a waste of fine thesbian talent. And I enjoyed them all. But they were truly crap.
