Test-Driving My Restored Dream Car Ended In DISASTER (NOT MY FAULT)

Hey Freddy, (This is Zlatko lol) It was a pleasure rallying with you guys. That Tire was a pain in the butt to find!
My co-driver John and one of the Dustball photographers (Jerry) drove to about 4 different tire shops with none of them having anything in stock. The Tire shop in Santa Fe only had one left, not even a pair to match, so we snatched it up right then and there to make sure you guys could stay in the game!

I know the feeling of being stranded in the middle of nowhere. We were in the top part of the Texas panhandle, about 5 miles from the OK border and a deer ran out in the road. So we swerved and took out a utility pole and totaled the car at 1am. Luckily it was the only pole that didn't have lines running to it. We were literally in the middle of nowhere. It was pretty crappy. We lucked out and had a little town about 6 miles away so the cops dropped us off at the crappy hotel there after the tow truck driver tried to extort us for $600 for a tow 6 miles up the road. Claiming that because he had to come from the bigger city 24 miles away, that made it a 48 mile round trip plus whatever else charges to make $600. And that was the "deal" only for right then. LOL!

I've had that happen once, Valve stem cracked while driving with a brand new tyre.
Luckily I was only doing about 20mph and near the dealership so could limp there very slowly before it was fully empty and get it replaced.
Better yet, dealership replaced it under warranty.

I always put the donut on the rear if I have to use it. It's a bit of a pain to do on the side of the road with a standard jack, since you have to lift the car twice, but I'd much rather have two good tires up front for turning and stopping.

I barely watched this now and i was like.. Wait. I live in Santa Fe. Then I noticed the hotel, and then I noticed this was all done literally a week after I had quit! I'm kicking myself so hard right now cause i could've met you guys and this beautiful VR-4! I hope Fermin and/or Jonathan were able to get you guys into a nice room! And I won't ever stop regretting having quit La Fonda 1 week too early :'D

I caravaned with 3 other cars from Colorado to Kentucky and back with my 1991 135K mile 3000GT SL a couple years back and I had the only vehicle that made the round trip without a breakdown. Love my 3000GT's all four of them. 2 1991's and 2 1992's. 2 SL's and 2 VR4's. 2 pearl white and 2 fiji blue.

Doncha know spare donuts are supposed to go on the rear only darlin.
LOL, but really... on the front you can fold the rim in turns, then have bigger problems than a flat. Big reason I'm not a fan of stagger'd setups.

I am watching this and everyone of the series seems so genuinely nice no attitudes or fake representations of what things are such as endless budgets and manufactured drama. I want to build a tuner car one day I know nothing about it so this giving some really good ideas knowing that it can be done staying with the basics and still get performance. Granted I do know these guys are skilled experts.

For obvious safety and handling reasons, always put that wimpy donut on the rear of the vehicle. There's a reason most are stamped do not excede 50 mph.
